Helene Simpson Photography is a client website focused on selling newborn photography sessions to families. The design places strong emphasis on imagery to capture emotional connection, build trust, and guide users toward booking a session or making a purchase.

Parents looking to capture memories of their newborns are often influenced heavily by imagery, emotion, and trust. The challenge was to design a photography website that showcased the quality and style of the photographer’s work while guiding users toward a purchase decision without feeling transactional or rushed.

The site needed to prioritise imagery, maintain a soft and welcoming tone, and clearly communicate available services and pricing.

A soft pink accent colour was derived from the client’s photography, where it appeared frequently across multiple images. This colour was used selectively throughout the site to highlight interactive elements and key focus areas.

White was retained as the primary colour to allow imagery to remain the dominant visual element, ensuring the accent colour stood out without overwhelming the content.

Typography was chosen to align visually with the business logo; however, when applied across larger bodies of text, the font proved difficult to scan. In retrospect, the decorative characteristics and inconsistent letterforms reduced readability, particularly during longer reading sessions.

This project highlighted the importance of separating brand expression from body text usability, a principle that has influenced typographic decisions in later work.

The gallery was a key design pattern used to showcase different photography themes and environments. It allows users to browse image sets using manual navigation and thumbnails without triggering page reloads, keeping the experience smooth and focused.

This approach enables families to explore variations in style, setting, and age groups while maintaining attention on the photography itself.
